Online shopping allows you to stay in the comfort of your home, go online, purchase the item you would like and the package will arrive at your doorstep. As online shopping does have a lot of benefits, it is also important to know how to stay safe while purchasing products from different websites. Throughout this lesson you will learn what online shopping is, how it works, safety tips for shopping online, and how to look for to determine if a website is legitimate or not.

Key Technology Terms

  • Online Shopping: activity of purchasing goods and products over the internet
  • Shopping Cart: software that facilitates the purchase by the consumer. It accepts the consumer’s payment and organizes the distribution of that information to the merchant
  • HTTPS (Hyper Transfer Protocol Secure): used for secure communication over the internet
  • Ecommerce: short for electronic commerce and refers to the buying and selling of goods and products over the internet
  • Digital Wallet: financial accounts that allow users to store funds, complete transactions and track payment histories using a device
