What is Facebook?
You may have heard of Facebook from your friends, or family, or even on the news. In short, Facebook is a social media platform. Originally created by Mark Zuckerberg who in 2021 renamed the company from Facebook to Meta. There are so many features that are available on Facebook and in future lessons we will discuss the more advanced features such as: Groups, Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Messenger, and Neighbours, however throughout this lesson we will be focusing on how you can get started and what you can use Facebook for.
For this lesson we will be using the web browser version of Facebook, but if you want to use the Facebook app on your device, go to the App Store or Google Play Store and download the app. The app icon is a blue box with a white letter “F” in the center.
There are a lot of different uses for Facebook. Below are some ways that people use Facebook for. Let’s take a look!
What is Facebook used for?
Many people around the world use Facebook for its various features and capabilities. You may not use it for all of these reasons, but it is good to know what it has to offer before we get started.
Connect with loved ones through messages and sharing photos.
Stay up to date with news stories that are posted.
Stay connected to your community by joining groups with people in your neighbourhood.
Purchase products that people in your area are selling through Facebook Marketplace.
As you can see, there are quite a few different things that people use Facebook for! I personally like to chat and share photos with my grandchildren. But before we get to learning how to share and post, let’s learn how to create a Facebook account if you do not already have one.
