Tips when using a Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard

Thank you, Paul! Learner, thanks for joining me. I am looking forward to showing you some tips and tricks of using your Apple device. I first want to start off with using a Magic Mouse and a Magic Keyboard so let’s begin.

Magic Mouse Gestures

You are probably thinking you are going to see some sort of flying mouse with a cape on during this lesson but unfortunately, that is not what we mean when we say Magic Mouse. The Magic Mouse we are talking about is the computer mouse that comes with a Mac computer. If you have one already you probably have noticed that it looks different from a regular computer mouse, which is why we want to provide you with some tips on how to use it. Let’s take a look.

How to Right- Click

When using a Magic Mouse, there are two ways to Right-Click. Right-clicking is used when you need to see additional information of a selected item, such as a file. We will provide you with a demonstration on how to Right-Click without changing any settings. For the second way to Right-Click we will provide you with a link so that you can follow the steps to customize your Magic Mouse settings.

To Right- Click using a Magic Mouse is to simply hold down the Control key on your keyboard and click your Magic Mouse at the same time. Below is a short video to demonstrate.

How to Swipe

To swipe between pages on your computer using your Magic Mouse, you can do this by swiping left or right on your mouse. If you swipe using one finger, you can move between pages. For example if you are on your web browser and you need to go back to the previous page, all you have to do is swipe right on your mouse. If you need to move to the next page, you can swipe left.

Below are short videos demonstrating how to swipe using your Magic Mouse.

Tip: To swipe using a Magic Mouse, all you have to do is gently place your finger on the mouse. You do not need to click.

How to Zoom

If you are ever reading something on your computer and you need to zoom in on it to see it better, all you need to do is double tap with one finger on your Magic Mouse. When you need to zoom back out you will do the same thing. Below is a video demonstrating how to zoom in and out using your Magic Mouse.

Tip: To zoom, you do not need to click the mouse. All you need to do is tap the mouse gently with your finger.

Now we will move on to tips for using your Magic Keyboard.

Tips for your Magic Keyboard

Now that we understand some Magic Mouse gestures, let’s take a look at our Magic Keyboard. This keyboard comes with a Mac computer and is also different from the keyboards you may have seen with Windows computers so we want to show you a couple of tricks to complete tasks such as how to Copy and Paste something and how to take a screenshot of your computer screen.

How to Copy and Paste

To Copy and Paste on a computer means to take text or a photo from one place and move it to the other. You can do this using your computer mouse but we want to show you a quick and easy way to Copy and Paste using your Magic Keyboard.

To Copy text or a photo using your Magic Keyboard first use your mouse to highlight what information you want to copy and then press the Command key and the “C” key at the same time. A short video is posted below to demonstrate.

To Paste text or a photo using your Magic Keyboard first make sure you click where you want to paste the information and then press the Command key and the “V” key at the same time. A short video is posted below to demonstrate.

How to take a Screenshot

Taking a screenshot with your device comes in handy more often than you think. Maybe you found a good recipe online that you want to save or maybe you want to keep record of something such as a bill that you paid. Screenshots can be taken on your device and they are photos that you take of your screen that automatically save to your desktop.

To take a screenshot on your Mac, press and hold the Shift key, Command key and “3” key all at the same time. This will capture everything that is on your screen. A video is posted below demonstrating how to take a screenshot.

We have covered a lot but there is still more to learn! Let’s move on to our next lesson where we will show you how to use your trackpad if you own a MacBook.
